COLOUR ON A DARK DAY

It's that time of the year again when autumn turns to winter. Autumn is my favourite season. I love how the trees turn from green to stunning hues of orange and yellow and how it's warm enough to wear summer clothes; all you need is a light jacket. For someone like me who hates having to bundle up for winter because I'm either too hot or too cold, the mild temperatures of autumn are perfect. However, as the days grow shorter and the light fades away, sometimes you need a bit of colour to put a pep in your step. This is especially true in the UK, where the grey skies can appear suddenly and linger.

In the UK, everything can feel so dark, gloomy and grey. I tend to dress in more neutral, muted colours, but I've found nothing like a splash of colour on a cold winter's day to bring some light into your life.

When people believe in the symbolic meaning of their clothes, it can affect their cognitive processes, and part of those are your emotions

The easiest, most straightforward way of doing this is with a coat. I love coats. Anyone who knows me knows I have an exceptional collection of coats. It seems every winter, I accumulate ten more! I just can't help myself. I love the way a coat can quickly elevate a winter outfit. Typically, on me, underneath, you'll find me in something simple, like black leggings or jeans and a black jumper. Still, a complete outfit is made with a fabulous coat, even if the underneath is very basic.

Nothing radiates more positivity than a brightly coloured coat. You name the colour, I have it. Right now, I'm only one month postpartum and looking forward to this new chapter in my life. I feel very colourful and bright inside. I walked into Zara and saw this bright pink coat, which screamed my name. I love how bright pinks look against dark brown skin; I think it's gorgeous.

My husband also saw these Nike trainers and thought of me. So much pink, but I love it! He bought them in the pink colourway, lots of bright pink plus pinkish yellow. It's absolutely amazing, and looking down at my feet on a rainy day makes me feel better when looking up can make me feel down.

I challenge you to add a little colour to your winter wardrobe and watch it transform your life. If you can't have the sun, create some sun for yourself. Do you like wearing colour in the winter, or do you tend to stick to darker muted tones as autumn transitions? Let me know in the comments below.
